McCain mug suspends availability!?!
In a move to possibly assist McCain with assisting congress find a solution to the financial crisis, the official McCain mug is no longer available. The web site that sold them is not accessible. Neither of the two new official McCain stores offer a mug. This action, so close to the end of the election, is cause to remove the mug from the election. However, in the spirit of fairness, I will allow the mug to finish out the election. In your voting, you should consider that the McCain mug is not committed to the American public by removing itself from availability at this critical time in our nation's mug history. Vote here.

a bargin at 700 billion $$
Since we (you and I, the American tax payer) are buying Wall Street - buy this mug for a mere $18 to celebrate. You may want to jump when you see how your 401K is doing nowadays. Enjoy this mug before you (or the President) do anything too rash.

C-SPAN rocks!
I watched the DNC this week. Monday and Tuesday I watched on CNN and got so annoyed at the "hosts" talking constantly, asking their pundits obvious questions with the predictable answers (no offense pundits). Additionally they run the same "facts" and nonsense on the bottom and side of he screen over and over. All I wanted was video feed of the event to have an experience like I'm there sitting on the floor and watching. So I start flipping channels looking for coverage that was less annoying (no offense CNN) and hit C-SPAN. I realized, oh yes, they don't talk they just show the event - perfect! Wednesday and Thursday I watched the DNC on C-SPAN and loved it. Thanks C-SPAN for just showing us the event without all the talk.
Check out their campaign '08 mug.

Convention time!
Nothing says DNC like the mascot mugs produced by Frankoma every election year. So come on all you Dems, get your 2008 donkey mug, drink from it with pride at work...but then some Republican creep will probably break it when you're not around so maybe best to just leave it at home.

It's on!
(Links to buy these mugs are on candidate's names)
It took long enough, but the Obama camp has finally put out a mug and now that he is the presumptive Democratic candidate - what a perfect time to start the REAL Coffee Mug Heaven presidential mug election. VOTE HERE!
Thank You President Bush...???
I'm predicting this will be the worst selling mug of all time - perhaps 2nd only to the "Someone went to Auschwitz and all I got was this lousy mug" mug. They will doubtless be on clearance soon enough, but get them here if you can't wait that long.

Flickr - pictures of coffee mugs, coffee cups and coffee
Happened across some interesting Flickr groups so I joined them and am putting links to them here. Many of these images wouldn't make it into Coffee Mug Heaven because some are mainly pictures of the coffee itself and, of course, my site is all about the mugs. I used to have pictures of some coffee cups on the old site but have eliminated them in the refurb for the new site.

Don't Tread On Me
This week's mug is the Gadsden flag rattlesnake mug, available for purchase here...but with a personal agenda attached.
Even if you've never watched "Jericho" on CBS, you've probably heard that it was canceled and its' fans sent loads of peanuts to CBS to get them to bring it back and they did. Well it has been canceled again just as the show was really, really getting good. So, here we go again - this time I'm going to do what I can to help bring it back.
Throughout the series the Gadsden flag from the American Revolution has been used as a symbol of the spirit of the town of Jericho in its attempt to survive and recover from the "terrorist" attacks on the United States.
Some links here if you would like to read up on the show (if you're not familiar with it) because it is definitely worthwhile to watch, even if the 2 existing seasons is all we'll ever get.

9th anniversary and only 58% toward today's goal
I had hoped, on this 9th anniversary of CMH, to have 1,000 mugs on the new site. I only have 583 ready today so I'll just have to settle and keep working on it.
I have a new mug out to commemorate the 9th anniversary. I hope you like it with the new logo one one side and the traditional blinking neon light logo on the other.

The NEW Coffee Mug Heaven is up (kinda)
Coffee Mug Heaven was created in 1999 as a way for me to:
a) keep track of my mug collection
and
b) share my mugs with the world
The internet was a small cozy place back then and while the site had a few partnerships to make money off link/sales, making money was far from the primary purpose. For several years, Coffee Mug Heaven was the #1 "coffee mug" site on the web. I expanded the site to include other people's favorite mugs and unique mugs I found available for purchase on the web or on eBay. I maintained the site till late 2000 when the site was becoming so large that it was hard to add new mugs (due to the static design of the web pages). I set my mind to redesign the site using a database to serve up the mugs, thus making it easy to add mugs and keep the site humming. Life, being what it is, had different plans. Many things changed over the next 7 years and I tried to make time to do the redesign but made little progress. In my defense I didn't have the tools or know-how until the past few years.
This year, determined to make the redesign dream a reality, I worked hard to update the database I'd started, wrote the code for the pages and just today have (an ugly) working model of the NEW Coffee Mug Heaven up and running. There will be many updates and improvements over the next few weeks and my first goal is to have 1,000 mugs up on the site by April 1, 2008. That day will mark the 9th anniversary of the site's launch and will be the official grand re-opening of the site. But wait, there's more...
Once I've got the site all fixed up and running smoothly, I have another goal. By April 1, 2009, the site's 10th anniversary, I plan to have 1,000,000 mugs on Coffee Mug Heaven.

mail bag
Hello DLGDyer
I came across your web page searching the net. I also collect coffee mugs from the places I have traveled to all over the world. I now have about 45 of them of various sizes and I desperately need to find a display that can mount on the wall to hold them. ... I'm getting married and though my fiance likes them they are not organized and are laying all around the house. I know I probably cant find one case that will hold all of them but it would be great if I could buy 2 or 3 and put them on the wall in my office. Please can you recommend a place that carries something like that?

There are many ways to display your mugs. I have about 300 mugs now and only put my favorite ones out. Perhaps the easiest and most decor oriented is the expanding coat hanging things (see attached picture with Starbucks city mugs). This method also probably allows the most mugs to be displayed in the least amount of space. Otherwise some shallow shelving would do the trick - this is more expensive and won't display as many mugs.
Hope that helps,
DLGDyer
